Counselling in Southampton

Private therapy for adults who are navigating burnout, overwhelm, or emotional disconnection

Something feels off.

Maybe you’re still managing, doing what needs to be done. Or maybe the cracks are already showing - in your sleep, your focus, your relationships. You might feel emotionally flat, numb, or wound too tightly. Foggy in your thinking, short on patience, no longer able to find rest.

You may have lost sight of what you need, or even how you feel. You might find yourself withdrawing, snapping, or drifting through the day in a kind of quiet disconnection.

These are often the signs of emotional exhaustion - the kind that doesn’t lift with a weekend off or a change of scenery.
And if you’re here, something in you likely knows that.

At The Farley, counselling in Southampton begins gently.

No assumptions. No pressure to explain everything. Just space to slow down, speak freely, and be met in what you’re carrying - even if it doesn’t yet have a name.

You’re functioning. But it doesn’t feel like you.

You keep going. You reply, deliver, smile when it’s needed. But something’s shifted. The days blur, your body feels heavy, and even simple tasks feel impossibly draining. You’re not sure what’s wrong. Only that this can’t keep going.

Therapy offers space to stop performing and start listening. To your thoughts. Your exhaustion. Your quiet instincts. To yourself.

What to expect from in-person counselling in Southampton

I work from my home-based therapy practice in Shirley, Southampton. The space is private, self-contained, and thoughtfully set up with its own entrance, WC, a place to put your things, and filtered drinking water.

The therapy room is painted a deep, grounding green and looks out onto a small garden, where pollinators drift between the evergreen plants. The low window allows light in without feeling exposed. Many clients say they find it calming to watch the bees at work as we talk.

It’s a space that doesn’t rush you. That invites you to settle, reflect, and let your guard down without needing to explain everything.

This might be the right fit if you’re:

  • Burning out quietly, but still showing up for everyone else

  • Living with high-functioning anxiety, and no one sees it

  • Feeling emotionally flat or disconnected from your own life

  • Carrying a constant sense of pressure without knowing how to stop

  • Struggling with people-pleasing or perfectionism

  • Saying “I’m fine” so often it feels automatic

  • Navigating relationships that feel draining or uncertain

  • Longing for something steadier, something more real

There’s no need to label it. If something in you is stirring or stuck, we can begin there.

My approach

I offer person-centred counselling that draws on trauma-aware and relational understanding. I’m most interested in how you experience the world, and how that shows up in your emotions, relationships, and ways of coping.

Therapy here isn’t about pushing for change. It’s about creating the conditions for clarity, self-understanding, and emotional movement to emerge naturally over time.

Therapy isn’t about fixing. It’s about finally being met.

There’s strength in coping. But there’s also a cost. Even the most capable people need a space where they don’t have to mask, perform, or hold it all together.

Therapy at The Farley is steady, respectful, and grounded in human connection. It’s not about ticking boxes. It’s about meeting yourself with care.

Frequently Asked Questions

When are appointments available?
I offer sessions throughout the week, including daytime and evening slots. We’ll find a regular time that works for your schedule and for you.

Where in Southampton are you based?
My practice is based at 11 Norfolk Road, Southampton, SO15 5AT. There is free on-street parking, and it's easy to access from most parts of the city.

Do you offer online therapy too?
Yes. If in-person counselling in Southampton doesn’t suit your circumstances, I also offer online therapy across the UK. Some people prefer to stay online long-term, others use a blend of both.

Do you belong to a professional body?
Yes. I’m a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work in line with their professional and ethical framework.

Do I need a referral or diagnosis to start therapy?
Not at all. Most people come because something no longer feels manageable, even if they can’t explain why. If you’re carrying something, even if it feels small or hard to name, that’s enough to begin.

Ready to talk?
