Private Therapy in Southampton

Person-centred counselling and psychotherapy in Southampton for adults living with burnout, anxiety, and emotional disconnection

Burnout, anxiety, and disconnection do not look the same for everyone. For some, it shows up in sleepless nights or scattered focus. For others, it is tension that never lifts, or emotions that feel flat and unreachable. It can also appear as constant pressure, irritability, or relationships that feel harder to sustain. Sometimes it is simply the sense of no longer feeling like yourself.

Research highlights how experiences like burnout, anxiety, and emotional disconnection can place a heavy strain on wellbeing (Maslach & Leiter, 2016)WHO, 2019).

Counselling in Southampton at The Farley offers a steady, confidential space to explore these challenges and begin making sense of what feels overwhelming.

In-person counselling at The Farley

I work from a private, home-based practice in Shirley, Southampton. The space is calm, with its own entrance, WC, and a view onto a small garden. Many clients find the setting helps them feel more at ease, creating a sense of safety before the work begins.

Sessions are weekly, 50 minutes long, and can be short-term or open-ended depending on your needs.

This might be the right fit if you are:

  • Burning out but still trying to meet every demand

  • Living with anxiety that is difficult to switch off

  • Feeling emotionally flat or disconnected from your own life

  • Experiencing constant pressure without knowing how to slow down

  • Struggling with people-pleasing, perfectionism, or both

  • Presenting as fine to others, while feeling the opposite inside

  • Managing relationships that leave you emotionally drained

  • Seeking greater clarity, balance, and emotional stability in daily life

You do not need to arrive with the right words. Therapy often begins in uncertainty.

My approach

I offer person-centred counselling, drawing on trauma-aware and relational perspectives. At the core of this approach is the therapeutic relationship itself. Research indicates that when therapy is grounded in empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive regard, clients are more likely to experience positive outcomes (StatPearls, 2023), (Baier et al., 2020).

.

For adults living with burnout, anxiety, or emotional disconnection, this can be especially important. The pressure to keep coping often leaves little room for vulnerability. A steady therapeutic relationship provides the conditions where it may feel possible to be met without expectation - which is why person-centred counselling is well placed to support this kind of work.

Systematic reviews and meta-analyses suggest that person-centred therapy can be effective in reducing distress linked to anxiety, depression, and longer-term emotional strain (Elliott et al., 2013, PCE meta-analysis). Rather than pushing for quick solutions, sessions at The Farley focus on building the conditions where clarity, balance, and relief are more likely to emerge at your pace.
